I have a passion for capturing places around the world through photography and my second trip to New York felt like a milestone in my journey as a travel photographer. This visit was especially memorable as I was able to see everything from the iconic sights to some lesser-known corners of the city. New York photography has become a significant addition to my travel portfolio and has become a place that’s very close to my heart.
One of my favourite things about travel photography is the ability to capture memories and moments that tell a story long after the journey ends. New York’s dynamic atmosphere provides endless opportunities to do just that. Over ten days, I explored its streets, parks, and landmarks, there’s something incredible about photographing a city as visually diverse as New York. It feels as though every photo is unique even taken from the same spot.
This trip was an eye-opener compared to my first visit. With more time to explore, I discovered new locations I didn't get to see the first time around. Of course, I revisited the classics like Times Square and the Rockefeller Centre, but it was also the slightly quieter spaces that stood out this time, places like The Ramble in Central Park and Domino Park in Brooklyn. The peaceful, almost hidden areas offered a chance to slow down and capture a more intimate side of the city that often goes unnoticed. Of course, it’s always nice to visit all the museums there’s time for too!
The Ramble is a quiet woodland area in Central Park and felt like a small retreat from the city’s constant motion. Photographing here gave me a chance to focus on the subtle details: like light passing through leaves, a reflection on the lake, or the interesting shadows cast by the trees. Domino Park in Brooklyn provided a different kind of tranquillity with views of the Manhattan skyline across the water. This spot, framed by industrial structures and modern park features, gave me a completely new perspective on the city.
My New York photography experience has only fuelled my passion for travel photography, inspiring me to continue exploring and capturing more destinations. Each trip teaches me new techniques and ways to see and portray the world. New York remains a vibrant and welcoming place, and I can’t wait to head back there for more!
As I build my travel portfolio, I’m also excited to branch into travel writing, adding another layer to the stories my photos tell. Sharing these stories feels like an essential part of the journey, connecting with others who also feel the magic of experiencing new places.
