Travel photography has become an increasingly important part of my career. It allows me to focus on the moment and truly enjoy pressure-free photography. On my trip to Italy, I had the privilege of experiencing and photographing two of the most iconic destinations in the country: Milan and Lake Como. The beauty of these locations, with their stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, offered unlimited opportunities for creativity and portfolio building.
Italy has always been a place I’ve wanted to visit, and finally getting the opportunity was a dream come true. As I continue to expand my travel photography portfolio, Italy will undoubtedly remain one of my favourite destinations. With so much beauty and interesting architecture, I am excited to continue combining photography and travel in my future work.
We stayed in Cernobbio, a small town on the shores of Lake Como. The charm of Cernobbio, with its lakeside views and peaceful atmosphere, was a perfect complement to the more tourist-centric areas like Bellagio.Â
We took a scenic boat ride up the lake, and the views of the surrounding mountains and the crystal-clear waters were beautiful! The boat trip was an adventure in itself, passing through picturesque villages such as Torno, Lenno, and Tremezzo - which holds a special place in pop culture, having been the backdrop for Naboo in Star Wars - but each town we passed had a unique charm.
Bellagio, known as the "Pearl of Lake Como," is a popular tourist destination, and for good reason. The town sits at the intersection of the lake's two arms, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. After only a few hours there, I was captivated by the small, independent shops selling bespoke jewellery and eating at Ristorante La Punta made it clear that Bellagio was not just a place for scenic beauty, but also for experiencing authentic Italian culture.
The final day of my trip was spent exploring Milan, a city known worldwide for its fashion, architecture, and culture. The first stop was the magnificent Duomo, Milan’s iconic cathedral. You truly don’t realise the scale of landmarks like these until you’re standing right in front of them. The gothic structure was incredibly intricate and detailed, even down to the spires, making it the perfect subject for a photographer.Â
We also had to make a trip to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a designer shopping arcade that combines history and luxury. The architecture here, with its glass dome and grand arches, offered the perfect backdrop for photographing the city’s refined elegance.
For me, this trip was a reminder of why I love photography and travel so much – it’s about more than just taking pictures; it’s about telling stories, sharing experiences, and preserving moments that might otherwise be forgotten. I look forward to continuing my photography and travel journey, discovering new places, and capturing their unique beauty along the way.
