Indie-alternative singer-songwriter Rafael Richardson hails from Doncaster in the UK and is described as “a pianist, singer-songwriter and self-taught guitarist.” Rafael takes inspiration from bands such as The Last Shadow Puppets and The Libertines, influences which you can definitely hear in his work! Having put two singles out this year so far, Rafael is still fairly new to the scene but hearing his music, you’d never know it!
Rafael’s debut single was titled Missed Call and was followed up by his newest release, Poison. Both singles are available to stream on all major streaming platforms, and you should definitely check them out! Poison was released on March 20th and is catchy right from the start! The very beginning of the track immediately brings in the familiarity of the track, making you think you must have heard it somewhere before. On trying to place it, however, its originality shines through incredibly!
This is sure to help Rafael make waves in the music industry and with this single, it’s clear he already has! With a voice that’s well suited to the genre, Poison appears to be built around Rafael’s talent for vocals. This really makes the song flow seamlessly and makes it really enjoyable to listen to! Each element sits alongside the rest well and because of this, no part of the single is competing with any other part, giving it an effortless feel.
The harmonies come in at the chorus and really add a whole new layer of depth to the track. They work well alongside the main line of vocals and the lyrics are clear and easy to pick up on. That’s something that tends to make a song a huge hit when played live and I’m definitely excited to see how a crowd reacts to this one! Easy-to-pick-up lyrics are the kind that have you singing along by the end of the first listen and Poison is no exception, especially with how catchy the melody itself is!
Overall, the single is an incredible addition to Rafael’s catalogue and makes me think we can expect some amazing things from him in the future! It shows off a talent for writing, performing and producing in just one song, which is no small achievement!
Poison was released at the end of march so if you haven't already, make sure to check it out on any of the major streaming platforms - you can listen to Missed Call there too and it’s definitely worth it! Don't forget to check out Rafael’s social media at the same time - you don’t want to miss out on any new announcements!
