In Delirium | Ethyrfield

“Independent up-and-coming progressive rock trio” Ethyrfield have previously featured in Flare Magazine with their single Remembering and have once again got something incredible ready for release. The band is made up of lead vocalist and bassist Zach Cornish, guitarist and vocalist Ben Cornish and drummer Dan Aston and was formed in 2014. Since then, they have been changing the local music scene and have definitely left their mark on the industry!

Remembering was the first single from the album to be released and came out on May 3rd. It has definitely hyped up the album well and has definitely pointed fans in the direction of the album. Released today, the album is titled In Delirium and really shows off the talent and passion for music each of the band members has. The album is available to stream now on all major platforms and if you’re a rock fan, is definitely one to check out! With nine tracks titled River, Sunstroke, The Hunter, Delirium, Laying on of Hands, Overgrown, Serenity, Remembering and Bitter Wishbone, there’s definitely a lot there for fans to get into!

First up on the album is River, which gives a stripped-back feel in the opening and definitely leaves the listener intrigued to hear more. The second the vocals come in; it becomes obvious that the band clearly know how to show off each of their talents through music. The clarity of this really makes River a strong opening track for In Delirium. Sunstroke follows River and definitely brings a different vibe to the album. The stripped-back feel is well and truly gone and has been replaced by solid rock. The style and genre of the track suit the band well and really create a solid sound that's instantly recognisable as Ethyrfield.

The Hunter gives off similar energy to Sunstroke but manages to be completely different at the same time. The track sits well within the context of the album and heavily features guitar and drums - a must for any rock band! If you’re a fan of rock music, you’ll definitely love this track! The same goes for the next song. Delirium comes in with heavy guitar and drums, the backing track for the entire track is solid and creates an incredible base for the strong and catchy vocals.

Laying on of Hands comes in the same way and really helps to solidify the already incredibly strong sound of the album. It’s clear that Ethyrfield has found a sound they love and that really comes across in each track! Their melodies are catchy and will definitely be a hit live when the time for gigs comes again. The harmonies in this track really come through well and add an entirely new layer to the song. Overgrown brings back the slightly stripped-back feel and provides a nice and well-placed split in the album. This is possibly my favourite of the nine new tracks and really shows off a different side of the band to the one we’ve seen up until now in the album. Ethyrfield’s love of music comes through really well in this song and makes it really enjoyable to listen to!

Serenity brings us back to the harder rock and links Overgrown to the other songs in the album. The sound is consistent and really makes the album impossible to idly listen to. It demands the listener’s full attention and makes it impossible to sit still, it’s seriously difficult to nod bop along! Remembering follows on from Serenity well and sits well within the album itself, you can find my full review of the track here! Bitter Wishbone is the closing song of the album and really brings each song together at the last minute, to sum up, the album well! With catchy riffs and seriously strong vocals, the track is impossible not to love and really deserves checking out! It links the previous eight songs together and brings the entire album to an end that leaves you wanting to hear more - a fitting way to close an album as strong as In Delirium!
